Barnwood

My good friend's Carrie and Bill just purchased a home and the basement had
barnwood on the walls. She thought of me since they didn't care for it and had to go...
so Scott and I helped remove it.
I wanted to make them something like a birdhouse but since they just got married this year I thought of this. Scott helped me with the frame. They loved it ;  )

Just completed this one for a Christmas gift.

Here is the latest project that my Dad and I created together.
It's a "Jelly Cupboard" style but I store magazines in it.
I enjoy primitive type projects but Dad prefers working with virgin wood, getting everything straight, plumb, etc. I prefer just winging it.

I think it fits in our house wonderfully!
and it passed the cat scan

Had to add this photo of a young deer dining on our poor lil pine tree

Piano Desk

Oh the things I ask of my husband...like,
"hey, I found a free antique piano on Craigslist that I want to convert into a desk...
we could pick it up on Friday! Cool, right?"
Pianos are ridiculously heavy. We had a heck of a time getting it on the trailer.
Old arthritic wheels don't roll smoothly or at all. We got it on and off we went down 94,
me sweating bullets with envisions of that piano freeing itself and the horror that would ensue.
Getting it off the trailer was another story.
I told Scott I don't care if the bottom gets a little wreaked so lets use the tractor and forks.
Worked like a charm.

Parts came off easier than I expected.
It was REALLY filthy! I've never seen dust bunnies like this!
I grossed myself out thinking about old skin, hair, etc...
RUDE! But what did I expect, its over a hundred years old!

I'll update as I make progress

The two baby skunks just visited that one evening, thank God!

Took this picture through the basement window.

Mama enjoying dinner in the soybean field~
but Baby is curious...
I smell something weird- I'm outta here!

let's Salsa!

Very successful garden this year.
Five canning sessions of Salsa (51 Quarts and 11 Pints total)
One large batch of Spaghetti.
I'm happy to report I will not be blanching any more tomatoes this year!

Cork Wreath

It took a lot of corks to make this wreath!
Do I have a drinking problem you ask?
Well, maybe my friend does ~ these are all of her corks, honestly.

The above picture is the beginning rows of the wreath.

 Finished Wreath.
You randomly hot glue corks on top of the rows
and of course burn your fingers a couple of times.

Now I want it for myself.
Better start drinking more so I can accumulate corks,
hey, it works for me ;   )

Oliver update

Life imitating Art • June 2012
The little guy is growing!

He prefers to drink out of the toilet (we try to put the cover down now)

Likes sleeping "in the couch" rather than on it...

and loves it when I work from home ;  )

I thinks I like it here :  )
